Herbal Pumpkin is generally used for appetite disorders, constipation, digestive problems, food cravings, inflammatory bowel conditions, irregular bowel movements, parasites, poor appetite, stomach ache, swollen abdomen, worms, and yeast infections.

Black walnut has antifungal and astringent properties. The active constituents in black walnut, various tannins and a quinone compound called juglone, are primarily responsible for the herb’s anti-parasitic and worm-killing (anthelmintic) effects. Black walnut has been used to expel a variety of intestinal parasites, worms and yeast.

Cascara Sagrada is widely known for its laxative effects. Its non-habit-forming and mild nature have made cascara a popular treatment worldwide for chronic constipation, even for small children and the elderly. Cascara is also used to treat hemorrhoids and piles. Cascara has been shown to stimulate bile production and is beneficial for digestive and liver problems, particularly enlarged liver. Cascara has also been found an effective for treating colitis, diverticulosis, dyspepsia, gallstones, intestinal parasites, jaundice, skin diseases, sluggish gallbladder function, and worms.

Chamomile’s sedative properties have been found particularly beneficial for digestive problems, including colic, morning sickness, nausea, vomiting, and stress-induced dyspepsia and ulcers. The volatile oils in chamomile are primarily responsible for the herb’s analgesic (pain-relieving), anti-inflammatory, and antispasmodic effects. Chamomile is especially helpful for relaxing muscle spasms and soothing intestinal inflammation associated with colitis, constipation, diverticulitis, diverticulosis, hemorrhoids, and abdominal cramping. Chamomile’s bitter constituents stimulate digestion and liver function, and help relieve flatulence, nausea and vomiting. Chamomile helps fight bacteria and fungus, and works especially well against Candida albicans, staphylococcus, streptococcus, and urinary tract infections.

Marshmallow is made up of about 37% starch, 11% mucilage, and 11% pectin. Marshmallow increases the production of mucosal fluids which soothes inflamed tissues and helps heal both internal and external inflammatory conditions. Marshmallow is especially beneficial for soothing and protecting mucous membranes and for counteracting excess stomach acid, gastritis, hiatal hernias, and peptic ulcers. Marshmallow is also considered mildly laxative, and is often used for various intestinal problems, including colitis, diverticulitis, enteritis, irritable bowel syndrome, and regional ileitis. Recent research indicates a possible reduction in blood sugar levels using marshmallow, which could be of benefit to diabetics.

Mullein is most commonly associated with respiratory problems, known to provide soothing relief to the lungs and throat. Mullein has been a popular natural remedy for allergies and hayfever, asthma, colds, coughs, croup, emphysema, hoarseness, laryngitis, sinus congestion, tonsillitis, whooping cough, and any other lung ailments. Mullein contains mucilaginous substances, called polysaccharides, which protect mucous membranes and prevent them from absorbing toxins. The cooling, soothing properties of the mucilage lubricates tissues, reduces inflammation, and enhances healing which is beneficial for treating diarrhea, gastrointestinal inflammation, and hemorrhoids. Mullein also provides analgesic (pain-relieving), antibacterial, antiseptic, and diuretic activity. Mullein’s antispasmodic effect helps relieve abdominal cramping.

Pumpkin seeds are used because of the ability to destroy parasites, worms and other organisms. Pumpkin seeds have been found to be especially beneficial for treating tapeworms in children and pregnant women. Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc, which may explain their use in treating prostate enlargement, prostatitis, and prostate cancer prevention.

Slippery elm has been found to be an effective remedy for irritation of the mucus membranes, stomach, intestines, and urinary tubules. When slippery elm makes contact with inflamed surfaces, its mucilage coats and soothes irritated tissues, helping to protect them from injury and drawing out irritants and toxic substances. Slippery elm is believed to also soothe inflammation by stimulating nerve endings in the stomach and intestines which in turn, results in the secretion of mucosal fluids. Due to its high mucilage content, slippery elm has been shown to be quite effective for absorbing toxins from the bowel, balancing intestinal flora, and reduces bowel transit time. Slippery elm has been found extremely beneficial for acidity, arthritic inflammation, asthma, bronchitis, chronic cystitis, colic, colitis, constipation, convalescence, coughs, diarrhea, diverticulitis, gastroenteritis, hemorrhoids, inflammatory and irritable bowel conditions, pleurisy, sore throat, tuberculosis, ulcers, and weak digestion.

Violet leaf is used internally for asthma, bronchitis, chest colds, coughs, and excess respiratory mucus.
